Official blog by @ExpertPlus@mementomori.social . Trying this thing out.

Written by Expert Plus

I've been trying out this platform for a while and I already hate some stuff on here, yet prefer to stay :–)

So, here is some stuff about what I already dislike about Write.AS:

Custom CSS!

It is a paid a feature on Write.AS yet it is free on WriteFreely? Makes no sense.

Verification

While I do appreciate that I can verify my Mastodon profile by just linking back on the blog my Mastodon profile link and on Mastodon my blog link, well.......since starting Mastodon 4.3, Mastodon will now display a “More by” thing under link previews to blogs, if the blogpost contains a rel=me link. Guess what? Guess what?!

It modifies the “rel” part from “rel=me” to “rel=nofollow”.

Okay, I honestly still figuring this out, but that already dissapoints me.

Lack of featues that WriteFreely offers

How about pinning posts? Apparently, I can't do so?

Conclusion

I appreciate Write.AS platform but honestly, it needs a ton of work to do......

Hi, I'm Expert Plus, and you might had interacted with me before online many times, like on the butterfly app, the elephant app, and the bird app. If you know me, you just simply know all of that already. If you don'tnice to meet you, visitor!..

A while back ego, I was hating the Twitter character limit, which is 280, since that was not enough for me. Switching to an elephant-based platform didn't helped either: turns out 500 characters weren't enough for me either (and still don't).

At the time, I didn't knew much about Fediverse, I knew only Mastodon as the platform to exist, so, would you want to imagine my shock, when I started to view people on my Mastodon timeline who were writing posts longer then 500 characters?!

After reaching out and asking, turns out more platforms then Mastodon exists. That's how I learned Fediverse, my man.

The user who I was talking with, was a Pleroma user. As time passed by, as of now, I managed to try many ActivityPub platforms such as Friendica, Pleroma, and also – !!! – WriteFreely.

Man, of course I did find out about write.as's existence, but unfortunately at the time I came really too late: the signups were closed and the only way you could sign up was a paid signup. I only recenly (through Bluesky and Threads) had discovered that they had reopened the signups!

Which is of course is great, but at the time it wasn't open.

On Internet, I've been since 2019 – althrough I did used it back in 2014.

It is good to see that a lot of interesting minds are on here – the Internet – yet unfortunately, it is hard to find them on Internet.

The problem is: centralization.

You know 'hem. They are often referred to as “Big Tech”. They aren't welcome in some spaces; but in some they are. A good crowd is on these platforms, and they manipulate which content is shown, by using a thing that is referred to often as, algorithm.

While algorithms themselves aren't bad, it's bad for them to be under influence of these big companies.

But that is another story for the next time!..

P.S. Comment under this post by copying the URL link of this post and pasting it into a search bar of your ActivityPub preferred platform!
